This template is designed to provide a link to the AnimalBase database normally to be used under the heading External links for a species or genus name or a corresponding vernacular name. This database provides a great deal of information, mostly encyclopedic about animal taxa. It also provides taxonomic synonyms and can be a source for common names.
The template requires two parameters, first the rank of the taxon, usually "genus" or "species", and the AnimalBase code for the page.
