Jesse Sheidlower, editor (2001–2024), “android, n.”, in Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction.

This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections of Wiktionary entries, and on talk pages, to provide a citation to the Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction, which is an offshoot of the Oxford English Dictionary's Science Fiction Citations Project but is no longer formally affiliated with it.

Parameters

[แก้ไข]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1=, |id=, or |id1= – the number appearing at the end of the URL of the webpage that the template should link to. For example, if the URL is https://sfdictionary.com/view/14/, then specify |id=14.
  • |2=, |entry=, |label=, or |label1= – the entry cited. If the parameter is not specified, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.
  • |pos= – the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify |noformat=1 or |noformat=yes: see the example below.
  • To cite a second entry, use |3= or |id2=; |4=, |entry2=, or |label2=; and |pos2= (and |noformat2= if needed).
  • To cite a third entry, use |5= or |id3=; |6=, |entry3=, or |label3=; and |pos3= (and |noformat3= if needed).
  • |text= or |passage= – a passage quoted from the Dictionary.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.

Examples

  • Wikitext:
    • {{R:HDSF|pos=n|id=14|passage=a robot or other artificial being made to resemble a human, esp. one made of synthetic flesh or a fleshlike material (in contrast to metal, plastic, etc.)}} (assuming the template is used in the Wiktionary entry android); or
    • {{R:HDSF|entry=android|pos=n|id=14|passage=a robot or other artificial being made to resemble a human, esp. one made of synthetic flesh or a fleshlike material (in contrast to metal, plastic, etc.)}}; or
    • {{R:HDSF|14|android|pos=n|passage=a robot or other artificial being made to resemble a human, esp. one made of synthetic flesh or a fleshlike material (in contrast to metal, plastic, etc.)}}
  • Result: Jesse Sheidlower, editor (2001–2024), “android, n.”, in Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction: “a robot or other artificial being made to resemble a human, esp. one made of synthetic flesh or a fleshlike material (in contrast to metal, plastic, etc.)”.
